Controling of Consumption
System for Control and Balancing of Electric Power Consumption
One of the most significant basic costs in manufacturing of any product are the costs of the consumed electric power, the price of which is, moreover, constantly growing. Therefore it is necessary to pay as much as possible attention to the power consumption.
For optimization of the power consumption it is necessary, first of all, to know the time course of the total instantaneous electric power consumption in the technological process and the share of individual stronger appliances. Based on the evaluation of the time behaviour of electric power consumption it is possible to perform optimization interventions, whether organizational or automatic, so as to achieve the maximum possible power saving while preserving the volume of production.
Owing to the fact that most of the production processes are subject to permanent changes in short term (day, week, month) as for the product sales, as well as in long term as for the changes in technology, it is necessary to monitor and evaluate the electric power consumption permanently. It is the only way to adjust the control of the electric power consumption to the changing production needs. These facts must be connected with the selection of suitable consumption categories and diagrams so that the payment to the electric power supplier are as low as possible without limiting the required production output.
Every big electric power consumer may select one of the two basic ways of evaluation of consumption and therefore also the payment as follows:
If the consumption is evaluated according to the measured maximum of quarter-hour consumption, the basic charge for the quarter-hour maximum is always higher than in the other case. In the other case the said charge is lower, but the customer must ensure that the agreed value is not exceeded, otherwise they have to pay a penalty. The specific amount of individual prices depends on the amount of electric power consumption, technical parameters of the consumption point and the selection of secondary prices by the customer.
To handle the problems of optimizing the electric power consumption control from the view of the lowest possible prices (without penalties) while preserving the production output, there was developed the MIDIAS system, which is able to fulfil not only the above stated requirements, but, in the extended version, also to control production lines or entire technological processes. The basic functions of the MIDIAS system at control and optimization of electric power consumption are the following:
- Automatic entering of the consumption chart according to the contracts with the distributors
- Automatic watching of the limit values according to the consumption chart with the possibility of:
- Alert of the risk of exceeding
- Blocking of connection of production appliances at the risk of exceeding
- Short-term disconnection of production appliances at the risk of exceeding
- Evaluation of the possibility of disconnection of production appliances from the view of the progress of production
- Selection of priorities and time of disconnection of individual appliances
- Graphical displaying within the current quarter-hour:
- Course of the maximum allowable instantaneous consumption
- Technical maximum
- Quarter-hour maxima
- Course of the total consumption measured by the main electrometer
- Course of the consumption measured by the submeters
- Number values of instantaneous power reserves
- Saving of measured values with the possibility of recalling for the purpose of balancing and analysis in:
- Graphical displaying with selection of the time scale
- Table form with selection of the time interval
- The MIDIAS system for control and balancing of electric power consumption consists of the following basic components:
- Operator’s site with PC
- Control microcomputer station
- Subordinate microcomputer stations (for larger systems)
- Backup power supply
- Optical separator for the main electrometer
- Submeters with pulse transmitters
- Signal elements
- Elements for disconnection of appliances
- Connecting components of the system
- Company communication network ETHERNET
- Communication line RS 485 between control units and the operator’s site
- Individual connections for other parts
- Connection between individual PLC stations, operator’s site with PC and elements for signalling and disconnection of appliances may be implemented in the MIDIAS system by means of:
- Supplementary metallic line
- Utilization of the mains
- Radio transmission.
