Contactless humidity meter IRHC - 202
Humidity meters of the IRHC (Infrared Humidity Control) type are suitable for continuous measuring of humidity of various materials (especially ceramic mixtures, chemical products, food raw materials, paper, veneer etc.). The scanning is performed by means of infrared rays to a distance of 150 to 300 mm from the surface of the material, which can be moving in any way. The information about the instantaneous value can be used for the control of the production process (power saving, maintenance of top quality, etc.).
Principle of Function
The humidity meter works on the principle of measuring of absorption capacity of infrared radiation in two selected narrow spectral bands. This principle is generally known and widely used by many foreign manufacturers. The measuring is performed in the superficial layer of the material and is very fast sensitive. The output signal is current 4÷20 mA suitable for processing in the superior control system.
Way of Evaluation
The device for continuous measuring of humidity consists of the contactless infrared humidity meter IRHC – 202 and the indication box ME120 with digital evaluation unit OM 501 LX. The infrared humidity meter scans the current content of free water in the superficial layer of the material moving under the scanning head (tube) of the humidity meter.
The output signal of the humidity meter is the current signal 4÷20 mA, which is brought in the indication box ME 120 onto the terminals of the digital evaluation unit OM 501 LX. On the basis of the measured characteristics (in cooperation with the customer’s laboratory), this programmable device will perform linearization of the course in the way that the value on the display can be calibrated directly in % of humidity. The same applies to the output current signal 4÷20 mA from the device, which is reserved for the customer’s use, e.g. bringing it to the superior control system.
In addition, the indication box ME120 includes a circuit breaker and the OFF / ON switch, which is located on the door of the box and serves for switching the entire device off/on. The switching on is indicated by lighting up of the display of OM 501 LX and the lamp of the IRHC – 202 humidity meter.
The extra equipment enables switching among up to 16 characteristics, e.g. for various materials, by means of four logical inputs of the OM 501 LX evaluation unit. As extra equipment it is also possible to choose accumulation of the measured data (up to 61 000 values) in the memory of the evaluation unit and their subsequent transfer via the RS232/485 serial interface to the PC for further statistical processing. Another type of extra equipment is the possibility of moving the humidity meter above the measured material (circular or linear movement), which is suitable e.g. for the materials with uneven humidity.
CAUTION: After setting and calibration of the devices it is not possible to change the tilt and distance of the humidity meter from the measured material.
CAUTION: The infrared humidity meter is a very sensitive electronic device, so it is necessary to protect it from inadmissible electric stress, which could occur e.g. at arc welding in its vicinity. If it were inevitable, it would be necessary to disconnect the connection cables (i.e. to disconnect the connectors).

We offer you the performance of the operating tests of the infrared humidity meter of the IRHC-201 type on your technological equipment. The entire operation would last for approximately 4 weeks and would consist of the following:
- Installation of the measuring equipment of the IRHC-201 humidity meter on the agreed place in your technology.
- Training of operators and specification of the detailed procedure of tests and comparison with the laboratory measuring.
- A several-day presence of a test engineer of VAP Ing. s.r.o. at operational measuring.
- Tests.
- Final evaluation of the measured results, especially from the view of effectiveness, power saving an d increase of quality of the manufactured product.

Basic technical data of the IRHC-201 humidity meter are in the attached documentation. The supplied humidity meter includes also the evaluation unit with digital evaluation on 0.1% of the range of the measured humidity and the construction for attaching to the technological equipment. The humidity meter may work in the environment with an ambient temperature of +5 to +40°C, relative humidity up to 80%, vibrations and shocks up to 0.2gn, power supply from the mains 220V/50Hz, protection IP44. After the operational tests we can deliver the humidity meter in the basic variant with the digital measuring unit within two weeks. In case of a requirement for utilization of the humidity meter for automatic control of technology, the term of delivery depends on the scope of delivery.
